So much of my work relies on hyper pigmentation and chroma pallets. It is really good for me to just break it down to black and white. I also was using an open cup technique to get these liquid results which was new for me at the time. So many ways to do this! Guess I’ll have to experiment the rest of my life.

A Monkey on His Back, a piece that wrestles quietly with the weight we carry yet cannot see. Rendered in shifting shades of black, white, and gray, the painting anchors a monkey perched upon a lion—the lion’s mane rendered with careful detail, its open mouth a fierce declaration between strength and struggle. The edges of both figures dissolve; they seem to melt into the darkness, blurring the lines between reality and something otherworldly. This work holds an unspoken tension, an analogy for addiction’s relentless grip—how it chains us to pain, distorts our sense of self, and steals the grace we are meant to embody. Addiction is not merely a burden but a shadow that dims our light, preventing us from reaching the clarity, peace, and freedom that lie beneath the struggle. In capturing this, I traced the fragile passage between presence and absence, between burden and release—an unyielding fight to reclaim the grace that addiction threatens to steal away.
